iOS widget setup

Ferber's widgets show where you are in tonight's night at a glance: the countdown to the next check-in, or that it is check-in time. Two minutes of setup, then one tap on the widget opens the app.

Add the Home Screen widget

  1. Long-press an empty area of your iPhone Home Screen until the icons start jiggling.
  2. Tap the + in the top-left corner.
  3. Search for Ferber in the widget gallery.
  4. Choose the Ferber Timer widget. It comes in the small size.
  5. Tap Add Widget.
  6. Drag the widget where you want it on your Home Screen.
  7. Tap Done in the top-right corner.

Add the Lock Screen widget

  1. Lock your iPhone, then press the side button to wake the screen.
  2. Long-press anywhere on the Lock Screen.
  3. Tap Customize.
  4. Tap Lock Screen.
  5. Tap one of the widget slots (above or below the time).
  6. Pick Ferber from the list.
  7. Tap Done twice.

What each widget shows

  • Home Screen widget. The countdown while you wait, a prompt when it is time to check in, and a summary when the night is done. Tap it to open Ferber.
  • Lock Screen widget. A compact version of the same countdown, readable without unlocking your phone.
  • Your baby's name is never shown on either widget, even if you added one in the app.

If the widget does not show up

Try these in order:

  1. Open the Ferber app at least once. Widgets are not registered with iOS until the app launches.
  2. Restart your iPhone. iOS occasionally caches the widget gallery and a restart refreshes it.
  3. Check that the app is up to date. Widgets are added in updates; older app versions do not have them.
  4. Check that iOS is up to date. Lock Screen widgets need iOS 16 or later.

If the widget is not updating

  1. Open the Ferber app once. The widget refreshes from the app.
  2. If it still shows old information, remove the widget and add it again. This makes iOS fetch fresh data.
